From Hype to Habit: A Creative Entrepreneur’s Guide to Consistent Growth

"BIG things coming SOON!"

If you've ever been involved in the local music scene, you've seen an infinite amount of these kinds of posts. As a music scene participant, I myself have typed some variation of this at least a hundred times. And, inevitably, big things would NOT happen.

Either something fell apart behind the scenes or priorities changed, or any number of reasons that would cause production to come to a standstill. The longer I went without releasing the big thing, the more anxiety I'd feel. Inevitably, I would accept defeat and it would never get completed.

Big things demand big expectations. I struggled to stay on the pedestal I built for myself and walked away feeling like a failure every time.

After so many defeats, I went back to the drawing board and shifted my focus. A pedestal should be built brick by brick. When you construct it all at once, you make some strange design choices.

That's why my projects are built "brick by brick," because big things are actually just a million little things stacked on top of each other. That's why, when I meet with my clients, we don't just discuss our mission, we talk about what it'll take to get there.

Because there's no ROI on big things coming, but there's profit in the process.

I can't be the only one with a "big things coming" story — tell yours in the comments!
